When you first start using Share Trade Tracker no trades will exist in the Short Trades worksheet. Short Trades are managed via the "Short" button on the Share Trade Tracker menu. In this help article we will cover adding, modifying, deleting and covering short trades. Note that short trades can also be uploaded in bulk which is covered in the following article - Upload Trades ![]() Add Short Trade To add a new short trade, click on "Short" then "Add" to display the Add Short Trade form. Then proceed to complete the required fields on the form, when complete click on "Add Trade" and the details will be copied to the "Short Trades" worksheet. ![]() Cover Short Position To cover a short position, click on "Short", "Cover Short" then select a trade to cover from the list. This will then display the Cover Short Trade form. Complete the required fields on the form and click on "Cover Trade" which will copy the details to the "Short Trades" worksheet. Modify Short Trade To modify a short position, click on "Short", "Modify" then select a trade to modify from the list. This will then display the Modify Short Trade form. Change the required fields on the form and click on "Modify Trade" which will copy the details to the "Short Trades" worksheet. Delete Short Trade To modify a short position, click on "Short", "Delete" then select a trade to delete from the list. This will then remove the selected trade from the Short Trade form. Fields on Short Trade The following is a listing of all fields on the Short Trades worksheet. ![]() Trade Date: date on which the security was traded Security Code: security code for the trade; the exchange suffix is automatically included on "Add" Exchange: the exchange that the security was traded on, the familiar name is shown Company: this field is matched to the company details found on Yahoo Portfolio: this is the portfolio selected for the trade Instrument: this is the type of trade either a "Share" or "CFD" Short Contract No/Reference: reference number, contract number for the trade Short or Close Trade: indicates the type of trade Quantity: total quantity for the trade Short Price: short price for the trade Sold Value: this is the quantity * short price Short Brokerage: brokerage for the trade Total Short Credit: short price times quantity less brokerage Position Status: Position of the trade, either Open, Covered or Partial for partially covered trades Remaining or Close Quantity: The remaining or closed quantity of trades Current or Close Price: current price or close price Close Brokerage: brokerage for the close trade Market or Close Value: current market value, or value when closed Short Gross Profit/Loss: sold value less short credit value for open or close position ex brokerage Short Net Profit/Loss: sold value less short credit value inc brokerage Short % Gain/Loss: percentage gain or loss Create Date: the date the trade was first created Update Date: the date the trade was updated using "Modify Trade" Short Trade Reference: a unique reference from the short trade Short Close Reference: a unique reference from the matching short trade |
